A new streaming anthology, Monsoon Diaries, will bring together six directors working in six languages, each telling a story set during a single rainy day in a different city, the makers announced on Wednesday.
The episodes run about 40 minutes each and range from a comedy about a wedding caterer whose van breaks down, to a thriller about a night-shift nurse during a city-wide power cut. All six were shot during the same monsoon season.
"We wanted the rain to be the only thing the stories share," said creator and producer Aditya Raghavan. "Everything else — language, tone, genre — belongs to the director."
The six episodes
- The Last Bus — Marathi, a bus conductor's final shift before retirement.
- Tiffin — Hindi, a caterer racing to reach a wedding.
- Night Ward — Tamil, a nurse during a power cut.
- Paper Boats — Bengali, two children and a flooded lane.
- Ferry — Malayalam, strangers stranded at a jetty.
- Leak — Gujarati, a family argument under a leaking roof.
The series will be available with subtitles in eight languages and audio description in Hindi and English. The makers said they had worked with an accessibility consultant from the start of production.
Monsoon Diaries premieres next month. A trailer will be released next week.
