Electricity supply was restored to most of the five districts hit by an overnight outage, the regional power distribution company said on Saturday morning, after a fault on a high-voltage line tripped two substations shortly after midnight.
Engineers isolated the damaged section and rerouted supply through a parallel line. By 6 am, about 92 per cent of affected consumers had power again, the company said in a statement. Repairs to the damaged line are expected to take until the evening.
"The fault was on a transmission tower damaged by strong winds during the night," a senior engineer said. "Our teams reached the site within an hour, but we had to wait for daylight to climb the tower safely."
What residents should know
- Short, planned interruptions of up to 30 minutes may happen during the day while the line is repaired.
- Consumers still without power can call the 24-hour helpline or report the fault on the company's app.
- Do not touch fallen wires; report them to the helpline immediately.
District hospitals switched to generators during the outage, and the water department said pumping schedules would return to normal by the afternoon. Traffic signals at several junctions were manned by police until power returned.
The company said it would review why the backup line did not take over automatically, and publish a short report next week.
